The Edo State Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, has partnered with global blockchain firm Intmax and Summit Systems ISSP to train top government officials from different ministries in the state in blockchain and cybersecurity.

This was contained in a recent statement by the Chief Executive Officer of Pengage Finance, Simeon Ogunnubi, who is the programme facilitator.

Ogunnubi stated that the initiative aimed to empower senior officials, decision-makers, and technical staff within Edo State ministries to leverage advanced technologies for economic development and digital transformation.

He offered valuable insights into blockchain, tokenisation, and cybersecurity.

According to Ogunnub, the one-day capacity-building workshop was held recently in Benin City.

He explained that a key highlight of the workshop was the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology and Intmax.

“This partnership grants Intmax a significant role in working directly with the Edo State Government, establishing a strong presence across various government departments.

“The collaboration focuses on capacity building within the state’s digital ecosystem, enabling Edo State to leverage advanced technologies for improved governance and service delivery,” Ogunnubi stated.

He added that the partnership was significant for government officials, civil servants, technologists, blockchain developers, and other stakeholders in the digital economy.

He maintained that Edo State’s engagement with Intmax set a new standard for digital transformation, encouraging other regions to follow suit.

“Despite regulatory pressures that have led some cryptocurrency projects to exit the Nigerian market, Edo State’s partnership with Intmax underscores the state’s commitment to supporting blockchain innovation,” Ogunnubi averred.

He reiterated that the state recognised the benefits of blockchain technology in enhancing transparency and efficiency in the administration of government services.

Earlier, the Country Head of Intmax, Philip Asaya, while delivering a lecture on ‘Intmax blockchain and the public sector in Nigeria’, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge infrastructure and solutions.

Intmax’s Chief Strategy Officer, Sven Moella, joined virtually from Switzerland to discuss tokenising real-world assets.

Also, Glory Praise and Emmanuel Asabor from Intmax demonstrated the company’s role in public sector transformation.

“Summit Systems ISSP covered cybersecurity topics, including governance, risk and compliance, threat detection, and strategies to protect digital assets and infrastructure,” Moella, said.

The Edo State Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science, and Technology, Ogbeide Isibor, emphasised the importance of adopting emerging technologies in the public sector.

He noted that the state was the first sub-national entity in Sub-Saharan Africa to fully implement e-governance and achieve a paperless administration.

“We look forward to working with Intmax to develop practical solutions that will enhance Edo State’s ability to deliver key services. This partnership gives us access to a secure and low-cost network that can be used for everything from payments to record-keeping, and we are confident that our collaboration will yield tangible results while demonstrating Nigeria’s openness to blockchain technology,” Isibor said.
