The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over incidents of repackaging and selling of government's palliatives meant to alleviate the sufferings of the masses by unscrupulous individuals.
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has expressed concern over incidents of repackaging and selling of government’s palliatives meant to alleviate the sufferings of the masses by unscrupulous individuals.
Olukoyede made this observation while receiving the management of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), who were at the EFCC’s corporate headquarters on a courtesy visit.
The EFCC boss noted that incidents of sabotage of government’s efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the people by some greedy and mischievous citizens make it imperative for FCCPC to share intelligence with the EFCC.
“Sometimes, the government would release some palliatives and it won’t get to the people meant for. Some people will repackage and rebrand to sell them.
“So, it is extremely important that you share your intelligence with us to support your compliance or surveillance department and operations generally,” Olukoyede said.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer FCCPC, Mr. Olatunji Bello, disclosed that the motivation for the visit was to seek EFCC’s collaboration for better delivery of FCCPC’s mandate.
He said: “We feel there should be a collaborative effort. We need to gain some strengths through some of the things that you are doing because some of them are related to some of the work that we do too, particularly in the areas of surveillance and investigation that has to do with consumers.
“What you are doing has enhanced the capacity of the education system. For the Armed Forces, we can only continue to appreciate what you are doing.
“Everywhere we have our men, one of the key areas we told them is to make sure the schools are secure, because without that, as a nation we can’t move forward,” he said.
