The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced a four-day training program for officers of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission.

The training, which began on Monday, at the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja, is aimed at enhancing the investigative and analytical capacities of Liberian officers in combating financial crimes.

The focus of the training, according to a statement posted on the EFCC’s X handle on Tuesday, includes financial crimes investigation and investigative report writing, both of which are critical to tackling corruption and economic crimes effectively.

In his address to the participants, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, emphasised the importance of equipping anti-corruption officers with the right skills.

Speaking through the Commandant of the EFCC Academy, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Chinwe Ndubeze, Olukoyede said, “Knowledge is better than physical strength. Your presence here signifies a commitment to acquiring the necessary skills to excel in your career and carry out your duties effectively.”

The EFCC Chairman assured the Liberian delegation of the academy’s capacity to meet their expectations.

“Considering the expertise of the resource persons assigned to this program, we are confident that your goals will be achieved by the end of this course,” Ndubeze added.

Highlighting the significance of the training, Head of the External Cooperation Unit, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Aliyu Wali, described the initiative as a testament to the importance of regional collaboration in tackling corruption.

“International cooperation, especially within the African region, has proven to be a powerful tool in combating transnational financial crimes. This training is not only about enhancing investigative skills but also serves as a platform to exchange ideas, strategies, and best practices,” Wali said.

Dr. Miatta Jeh, who led the Liberian delegation, expressed gratitude to the EFCC and the Nigerian government for the opportunity and warm hospitality.

“We deeply appreciate this collaboration and the commitment shown by the EFCC in equipping us with the skills to combat corruption more effectively in Liberia,” Jeh said.

The training program covers a wide range of courses, including financial investigation techniques, introduction to financial intelligence, asset tracing (financial transactions), interviewing techniques in financial crimes, financial data analysis, and general report writing.
