The Super Eagles of Nigeria caretaker coach, Austin Eguavoen, has suggested that he won’t give the team’s talisman, Victor Osimhen, an express starting shirt.

Recall that the Super Eagles are set to face the Republic of Benin in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo at 5 p.m. later today, September 7.

Ahead of the game, coach Eguavoen is expected to decide on starting Victor Osimhen ahead of other attacking options who arrived at the training camp before him.

Osimhen, who recently joined Galatasaray on loan, was the last player to join the Super Eagles camp as he was busy trying to resolve his transfer saga.

When asked if the 25-year-old striker would start today’s game, Eguavoen said, “To answer that you know we have a pool of 23 players. So it is something I have to sleep over and then decide who starts tomorrow (today).”

Meanwhile, coach Eguavoen has expressed determination to beat the Benin Republic, emphasizing the Super Eagles’ high spirits to secure all three points in the upcoming game against the Cheetahs.

“Expectations are high, we’re at home, we’re in good spirits and we want the three points,” Eguavoen told reporters in Uyo.

“We will approach the game with all seriousness and we will do everything possible to win.

“It will be nothing but a win.”
