The Founder and Grand Sheik of the Muslims’ In Light Organization, SUFI Centre Nigeria, Dr Rasheed Akinbile, addressed the pressing economic hardship and the widespread frustration among Nigerians.
He emphasized the need for adherence to divine guidance to alleviate the suffering of the masses.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message sent to PUNCH Online Sunday, he urged both leaders and citizens to turn to Allah for guidance to survive in hard times.
“In addressing the economic hardship we are facing and the associated lamentation and frustration in the country, it is imperative that the dictates of Allah and the example of the holy prophet be followed to bring fast relief to the masses, especially in the areas of provision of food at affordable prices.
“It is time for both the leadership and the governed to come unto Allah – the leadership to seek guidance on the best way to implement the well-intended policies in order to give it a human face, knowing that 80 percent of our population are masses in the rural areas – while the citizens are to deepen the fear of Allah by avoiding commerce without morality that may heighten the suffering on the land”, he said.
Dr Akinbile emphasised the importance of demonstrating love to fellow citizens and being content with Allah’s provisions.
“This festival is a call for complete reliance on Allah with practical demonstration of love to fellow citizens and contentment on the provisions given by Allah”, he said.
Akinbile admonished both the government and the people to avoid extravagant spending and unnecessary displays of wealth during and after the celebration.
“Allah admonished the government and the people to avoid extravagant spending and unnecessary displays of wealth. It is important that both the leaders and the general citizens should cut down on wasteful spending.”
Referencing the examples of the prophets Ibrahim and Ismail, he called for simple living and moderation. “As demonstrated by the two prophets – father and son (Ibrahim and Ismail) – simple living and moderation should be our watchword”, Akinbile said.
He also emphasized the need for the government to provide real help in essential sectors.
“The government must continue to give real help and proper welfare to the citizens in the area of health and education so that we may build a nation that is prosperous, stable, and strong”.
