Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has commended elder statesman and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Afe Babalola, for his significant contributions to the construction of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.
Oyebanji, in a letter dated December 18, revealed that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has granted the airport clearance to commence non-scheduled flight operations from December 13, 2024, to June 15, 2025.
He also appealed for Babalola’s continued support to achieve full commercial flight operation status.
The governor’s letter, titled ‘Letter of Appreciation’ and seen by journalists in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, expressed appreciation for Babalola’s financial assistance, particularly for the purchase of critical equipment such as the CVOR/DME navigational aids, control tower communications, and the construction of the car park.
Oyebanji wrote, “On behalf of the government and good people of Ekiti State, I am delighted to formally express our heartfelt appreciation for the assistance you provided to the Ekiti State Government during the construction of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport.
“I am delighted to inform you that on 11th December 2024, we obtained clearance from the NCAA to commence non-scheduled fight operations for six months from 13 December 2024 to 15 June 2025.
“Your financial contribution for the purchase of navigational aids (CVOR/DME), control tower communications equipment and the construction of the car pad was invaluable to the accomplishment, and we are immensely grateful for your willingness to help.”
He added, “Sir, I wish to notify you that NCAA has outlined conditions for the actualisation of the full commercial fight operation status which include the installation of Instrument Landing System to enhance the flight operational capacity of the airport and we will count on your unflinching support.
“Once again, thank you for your kindness, generosity, and commitment to our shared passion and goals of development and prosperity for our dear Ekiti State.”
