The Ekiti State Government has reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, urged citizens to actively contribute to the state’s security by promptly reporting suspicious activities to the authorities.

He stressed that such cooperation is crucial in supporting the government and security agencies in their fight against crime.

Speaking on a radio programme in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, Olatunbosun stressed the collective responsibility of all residents to maintain peace.

He stated, “Reporting suspicious activities helps identify and prevent crime, ultimately curbing wrongdoing in society.”

The commissioner cautioned against complacency in neighbourhoods, noting that an indifferent attitude could negatively affect the community.

“The lack of concern for what happens in our surroundings often leads to a deteriorating environment. Residents must take ownership of public infrastructure and prevent vandalism and theft,” he said.

Olatunbosun also advised citizens to avoid risky practices, such as bush burning, especially during the dry season, to prevent potential fire disasters that could result in the loss of lives and property.

Highlighting Ekiti as one of the safest and most peaceful states in Nigeria, the commissioner assured that the government would continue to enhance effective policing and public safety.

“Anyone found engaging in illegal activities will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to economic growth, Olatunbosun highlighted the government’s focus on agribusiness.

He revealed that over 3,000 hectares of land had been cleared for mechanised farming, with a substantial portion of the 2025 budget dedicated to the agricultural sector.

This initiative, he explained, is expected to generate employment opportunities and empower Ekiti’s youth.
