Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party congresses in Ekiti State, the former Commissioner for Lands and Housing has picked the nomination form for the position of deputy chairman.
Akinwumi today received the nomination form at the office of the organizing secretary, Chief Abeni Olayinka.
Olayinka, while presenting the nomination form said: “Having met the necessary requirements, I now present this form to you and I wish you success”.
Akinwumi while addressing his supporters at his residence in Ado Ekiti expressed gratitude and assured them of good representation and loyalty to the party.
“Let me assure you that I will not disappoint you and the party and by the grace of God, we are going to be victorious”.
” I have all that it takes to be the national chairman of this party. I have served in various ministries as commissioner in this state. I have served as a member of the governing board of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, so, I have the necessary experience to lead the state, even at the national level but I must obey my party”.
” I started the race in March last year. I have gone around this state three times meeting our leaders on my chairmanship aspiration, I have spent millions of naira but the leaders who I so much respect in this party called and told me that I should abide by the decision of the party that zoned the chairman to the south and deputy to the north. I have obeyed them and that is why I have decided to go for the position of deputy chairman.
“One thing remains sacrosanct. I have obeyed my leaders and the party that zoned all the positions for the simple reason that I want us to take over this state in the next gubernatorial election and that is why I have accepted to serve in this capacity”.
The former Director General of Due Process thanked the leaders of the party for their intervention and encouraged them to continue to support the party.
Akinwumi used the occasion to advise the state working committee to continue to bring every member of the party together as a family for future success.
It would be recalled that Akinwumi was formerly contesting the position of the state chairman and was rated as the most preferred candidate but the leaders of the party directed him to obey the party’s decisions as regards zoning.
With Akinwumi heeding the call of the party leaders and agreeing with the zoning decisions of the party, the state of the PDP in the state is becoming more interesting.
