The 14th cohort of students of the Electoral College Nigeria has graduated, marking a significant milestone in the college’s ongoing mission to foster what it called ‘politeracy’ and empower citizens with comprehensive knowledge of politics and governance.
Since its inception in 2020, the Electoral College has been dedicated to educating citizens on the intricacies of political systems, governance, and civic responsibilities. The college’s program equips individuals with the tools and understanding necessary to actively participate in the democratic process, ensuring a more informed and engaged electorate.
This year’s graduates, a diverse group of passionate and driven individuals, have completed an intensive curriculum designed to deepen their understanding of political structures, electoral processes, and governance, which included creating pseudo parties, inter-party debates and elections, carrying out physical projects that held in various states like Bauchi, Kaduna, Ogun, Lagos, among others.
They have shown remarkable dedication and commitment, demonstrating a clear vision for contributing positively to their communities and the nation at large.
“We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our 14th cohort,” said Lisa Wunmi Bello, the Head of Politeracy. “Their journey through our program has equipped them with critical insights and skills that are essential for fostering a robust democratic society. As they step into their roles as informed citizens, we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will undoubtedly make.”
The graduation ceremony, held virtually was attended by notable guests, including Akin Braithwaite, a Lagos State gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, and members of the Board of Trustees of the Electoral College Nigeria, who shared their insights and experiences, inspiring the graduates to continue their pursuit of knowledge and active civic engagement.
“As we celebrate this milestone, the Electoral College remains committed to expanding its reach and impact. Our goal is to ensure that every citizen has access to quality political education, promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance. We believe that an informed electorate is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy, and our dedicated team is poised to achieve this vision,” reiterated Mr Kunle Lawal, the Executive Director of the Electoral College Nigeria.
