Electricity customers in Nigeria hit 13.2m as unmetered gap increases

Nigeria’s electricity customers hit 13,168,677 million in May 2024 as estimated billing customers surpassed metered customers.

This is according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s latest factsheet disclosed through its official X handle on Monday.

The figure is an increase from 12.33 million in the first Quarter of 2024.

According to NERC, metered customers stood at 5,977,203 million in May compared to 7,191,474 million estimated billing customers in the same period.

Accordingly, the country’s metering figure stood at 45.39 percent. This showed that unmetered customers in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry stood at 54.61 percent.

NERC’s data showed that only 8,733 Nigeria’s electricity customers were metered in May 2024.
