A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Umbugadu Ayuba-Ahmed, has urged the newly elected council chairmen across the state’s 13 LGAs to be accountable and transparent in discharging their duties.

Speaking shortly after his family dedication and thanksgiving ceremony at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, Graceland auditorium in Lafia on Sunday, the APC stakeholder advised the chairmen not to disappoint the electorate who entrusted them with the responsibility to serve their respective LGAs through their votes.

Ayuba-Ahmed noted that from the day the chairmen were sworn into office, they became leaders and decision-makers in the state, hence the need to represent the residents well in their duties.

Describing the election which led to their victory as one of the most transparent and peaceful in the state, the APC chieftain urged the newly elected LG chairmen to implement projects and programmes that would directly benefit their communities at the grassroots level.

He said, “I contested for the chairmanship position in Lafia LGA under the platform of the APC, but we later had a consensus candidate in the person of Hon. Mohammed Haliru Arabo. As a loyal party member, I gave him all the necessary support to succeed, and I am happy that he won the election.

“My advice to him and all elected council chairmen across the 13 LGAs of the state is that they should be accountable and transparent in carrying out their daily activities. They should stand by the electorate who voted for them and ensure they do the right thing at all times.”

Speaking on the significance of the dedication and thanksgiving ceremony, Ayuba-Ahmed said that as a family man, he recently faced numerous challenges, including the sudden death of one of his children, which prompted him to dedicate his family to God and thank Him for His blessings despite recent trials.

“Today is a day set aside for me and my family to appreciate God for His faithfulness. I invited my friends and well-wishers to join us today in the church to thank God, because no matter the challenges we face as humans, we still have to give thanks to God, as He alone knows what is best for each of us,” he said.

Earlier in his homily, the clergy in charge of ERCC Graceland, Lafia, Very Reverend Moses Kudu, speaking on the topic ‘His Ways Are Not Our Ways’, encouraged the congregation to always rely on God through prayer when facing difficult situations in their lives
