The 15th Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero has departed the ancient city of Kano on Friday amid speculation surrounding the emirship tussle in the state.
Bayero departed the Nasarawa mini palace, for the first time in three months, where he maintained a ‘sit tight’ stay to challenge his removal by the Kano State Government.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reinstated Mohammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano in May this year after assenting to a new Emirate Council (Repeal) Law, which dissolved Bayero’s and four others’ reigns.
Although there is no official statement to clarify whether Bayero’s departure was for medical or official reasons, unofficial sources believe Alh. Bayero may have left for Abuja to attend the inauguration of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice K. Kekere-Ekun.
A visit to the Nasarawa palace, along State Road, a few metres away from Government House, shows security operatives, including military personnel, mounting surveillance.
There are speculations that Bayero may have finally exited the legal battle for a peaceful resolution, having received a court injunction directing him to comply with the court order.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the state high court validated the sack of Bayero, ordering the monarch to vacate his present seat and surrender all instruments of office to the government. The case is awaiting an Appeal Court decision.
Meanwhile, a close relation of Bayero, who did not want to be named, told The Guardian that the 15th Emir has left for a private visit outside Kano.
He dispelled rumours going viral that Bayero has finally left the emirship battle for Sanusi as false and baseless.
Incidentally, Sanusi has also departed Nigeria for private business in the UK, leaving Kano with no sitting Emir.
