In a heartfelt tribute to the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, notable personalities gathered to celebrate his remarkable journey and achievements during his tenure as the 22nd CJN.
The valedictory session, held at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja, marked a significant milestone as Justice Ariwoola retired upon reaching the age of 70 on August 22, 2024.
Following the valedictory service was the public presentation of his autobiography title, Judging with Justice: The Autobiography of Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. The book encapsulates his life, career, and contributions to the judiciary, offering insights and lessons drawn from his experiences. The event took place at the prestigious International Conference Centre in the capital city and was chaired by a former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Vice President Kashim Shettima also graced the occasion. Emphasising the importance of the judiciary in upholding justice, he remarked, “We are reminded of the many reforms implemented during his tenure. We have seen significant improvement in the administration of justice, including increased salaries and allowances for judicial officers.”
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who succeeds Ariwoola as CJN, also paid tribute to her predecessor’s exceptional qualities. She said, “With a combination of discipline, forthrightness, foresight, intellectual prowess and an all-inclusive vision for advancement coupled with an unmistakable passion for judicial reforms, he has made immense contribution to the growth and stability of the Nigerian judiciary.”
The event was attended by other notable personalities such as the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, among others.
