The Kano State Police Command has prosecuted 600 out of the 873 suspects arrested for the destruction and looting of government and public properties during the Bad Government Protest in Kano.
The State Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo Garba, told newsmen, on Monday, that the arrested protesters were arrested on offences, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, thefts, mischief, and arson.
Among them, he narrated that 150 suspects were prosecuted for violating the curfew enforced by the Kano State Government and an additional 6 suspects linked with masterminding the destruction, setting ablaze and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are undergoing investigation.
He said, “arrested and transfer of seventy-six (76) suspects flying Russian flags, including a foreigner to Force Headquarters, Abuja for discreet investigation on charges of sedition and arrested 41 suspects for other major crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, and other crimes.
Dogo hinted that the Command recovered 2 AK-47 exhibit rifles and other substantial properties looted by the hoodlums at Audu Bako Secretariat NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press (KPP), Super Markets, and other destroyed places.
However, the Police Commissioner explained that despite the challenges posed by the recent protest, there were no lives lost, adding, “we are not aware of any lives lost during the problems”.
He said the Command arrested four kidnapping suspects and five armed robbers, 8 suspected car thieves and 2 human trafficking suspects, adding that they also arrested 23 suspected thugs (Yan Daba)
“We have recovered four AK-47 Rifles and One (1) Beretta Pistol, 47 live ammunition, Eight (8) motor vehicles Four (4) sacks containing Exol Tablets and Two (2) Bajaj Boxer Motorcycles
Additionally, the Command recovered 22 cows, 15 sheep, and 4 donkeys.
