EndBadGovernance: Niger Delta part of protest – Ijaw youths

The Ijaw Youth Council has expressed disappointment in the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, saying the Niger Delta region remains part of the ongoing EndBadGovernance protests.

President of the council, Dr Theophilus Alaye, who stated this in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, scored Tinubu’s Sunday nationwide broadcast low, saying it signifies that there is no hope for the nation.

He said: “With the speech that Mr President gave, you can see clearly that there is no hope for the people of Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

“They don’t have what it takes to decide whether to give us freedom or not. It is our responsibility; it is our constitutional right to express our displeasure at any given point in time when governance has failed us.

“The people of the Niger Delta are not exceptions. We are part of the protest. Those within the corridor of power have been using thugs to suppress the protesters.”

According to the Ijaw youths president, Tinubu ought to have addressed the issues of dilapidated refineries, which, if fixed, would crash the price of petroleum products.

“After removing fuel subsidy, I was believing that if this president is someone that has economic understanding, by now, all three refineries owned by the federal government would have been functional, producing petroleum products to crash down the high cost of the product.

“The Dangote refinery shouldn’t have been having issues with crude oil to produce petrol,” he added.
