Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, emphasized the nation’s rejection of foreign interference in its internal matters, while also underscoring the value of maintaining positive international relations.

At a briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday for members of the diplomatic corps, Tuggar outlined the Federal Government’s programs and policies.

Naija News reports that this comes amid the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest that began on August 1, in reaction to widespread economic hardship faced by citizens.

Cities like Lagos, Kano, Gombe, Kaduna, Yobe, Borno, Niger, Kebbi, and Abuja have seen significant protest activity, which has occasionally turned violent.

Footage has emerged showing some protesters displaying Russian flags, a development that has raised concerns.

President Bola Tinubu had a nationwide broadcast on Sunday, August 4, cautioned protesters against being used to advance an agenda that could potentially undermine democratic progress.

The Nigerian Police announced the arrest of foreign nationals reportedly sponsoring protests with the Russian flag in some northern parts of the country.

The Department of State Service (DSS) had arrested a tailor in Kano State over the possession and mass production of Russian flags in the Nothern region.

Ambassador Tuggar urged the international community to continue cooperating with Nigeria as it tackles its challenges, stressing the importance of mutual respect for national sovereignty.

Tuggar reassured that Nigeria values its relationships with other nations and organizations, emphasizing that the country will uphold these bonds.

He appealed for international understanding and collaboration in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to address economic issues and improve living standards for Nigerians both domestically and abroad.

While the government continues to work hard through the various reform programs and measures to address the challenges facing Nigeria and Nigerians, it is pertinent to remind us that no nation tolerates foreign interference in its domestic affairs and that of its citizens. Nigeria is not an exception.

“The government would take appropriate action against any foreign entity residing in Nigeria that is found to have directly or indirectly supported the protesters by whatever means or seeks to interfere in the internal affairs of the country.

“Nigeria cherishes and continues to value the cordial relationships that happily subsist between her and your countries and organisations and will not do anything to undermine or take for granted such relationships.

“Indeed, more than any time before now, we solicit your understanding and collaboration in the ongoing efforts of the Federal government in addressing the economic challenges confronting the country, to achieve a better life for every Nigerians at home and abroad,” he explained.
