#EndBadGovernance: Nigerian Police, Katsina Gov't Still Detaining Eight Protesters Since August, Pursuing Sham Trial

The group which made the demand in a short statement issued on Monday by its National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, also demanded that the Nigeria Police Force and the Katsina State government must drop all the charges against the protesters.

The Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), a human rights advocacy group, has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of eight #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters who are being detained and prosecuted in Katsina State.

The group which made the demand in a short statement issued on Monday by its National Secretary, Francis Nwapa, also demanded that the Nigeria Police Force and the Katsina State government must drop all the charges against the protesters.

Nwapa, who issued the statement after the Magistrate Court in Katsina state again adjourned the protesters’ case on Monday, said that persecution of protesters who were simply demanding good governance in the state must end.

He wrote, “Another 8 Katsina #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protesters appeared at the Magistrate Court today for a sham trial being pursued by the Nigeria Police Force & Katsina State Govt.

“This persecution of Protesters who were simply demanding good governance in Katsina must end. Protest is an inalienable right guaranteed under the Law.

Kayode Egbetokun and Governor Dikko Umar Radda should use the resources being wasted on these sham trials to provide employment, education and health care for the people of Katsina State.

“We demand immediate end to this trial and withdrawal of all charges.”
