The Federal Executive Council (FEC) is et to meet today, 5th August and a review of the #EndBadGovernnace protest is expected to be on the table as part of the agenda for the meeting.
The FEC meeting, to be presided over by President Bola Tinubu, is expected to start at 12 noon in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
During the meeting, FEC members may review the protest and determine fresh actions to be taken by the government to counter the economic hardship in the country and convince the protesters to end the action.
Naija News reports the protests kicked off on Thursday, August 1, and despite a nationwide broadcast by President Tinubu on Sunday, protesters have continued to gather across major cities.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has announced that the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests in Lagos have been officially banned following President Bola Tinubu’s address to demonstrators.
Naija News reports that Fayoade made the announcement in a press briefing on Sunday, stating that any assembly in the state is now deemed illegal since the President’s address.
“The protest has been called off because of the President’s speech. They believe that the President has spoken, and they are looking forward to him meeting their demands.
“In view of that there should be no more gathering here or anywhere, any of such is considered illegal and unlawful. Since It has been called off, we will apply the full weight of the law,” he said.
Despite the President’s televised plea for an end to the demonstrations, without offering substantial concessions, the protests persisted on Sunday.
Many businesses, including banks and grocery stores, were closed on Thursday and Friday due to the protests but reopened over the weekend as the demonstrations dwindled.
