#EndBadGovernance: Protesters Block Jikwoyi-Kurudu Route In FCT

1 month ago 3

Protesters have obstructed the Jikwoyi-Kurudu-Karshi route in the Federal Capital Territory, preventing vehicle passage and commercial activities by setting tires on fire.

Naija News reports that despite the ongoing fuel shortage, the few vehicles that attempted to travel the route around noon were forced to turn back. The same situation was seen in the opposite direction, with tricycle operators fleeing the scene.

Uniformed officers at the district police station in Kurudu, opposite the Post Service Housing Estate, were on high alert, equipped with tear gas and canisters, prepared for any escalation.

Local residents watched from a distance as police arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Meanwhile, the usually congested Karshi-Nyanya-AYA road was notably empty on Thursday.

Large groups of commuters were stranded at nearby bus stops, with little hope of finding transport. Many civil servants and traders chose to stay home, fearing potential fallout from the protests.

The #EndBadGovernance protests began early Thursday morning, with demonstrators in the city center limited to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

At the key military checkpoint in the Kugbo area on the Abuja–Keffi expressway, a lone armed soldier inspected the few cars on the otherwise empty road.

Additionally, at both the Fire Service and Supreme Court gates leading to the Presidential Villa in Asokoro, a significant security presence, including soldiers, police, and DSS operatives, was stationed to screen commuters and vehicles entering the area.
