#EndBadGovernance: Tinubu addresses Nigerians, calls for end to protests

1 month ago 66

President Bola Tinubu has urged protesters to suspend the ongoing protests and embrace dialogue to address issues of concern.

Speaking for the first time since the nationwide protests began on Thursday, Mr Tinubu said the protests have turned violent in some states contrary to the promise by protest organisers.

“I hereby enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue, which I have always acceded to at the slightest opportunity,” he said in Sunday’s broadcast.

He stated that his government’s decisions were necessary to reverse ‘decades of economic mismanagement that didn’t serve us well.’

“Yes, I agree, the buck stops on my table. But I can assure you that I am focused fully on delivering the governance to the people – good governance for that matter,” he said.

Thousands of Nigerians have taken to the streets to demand a wide range of reforms to reduce the high cost of living, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies.

But Mr Tinubu ruled that decision out in his speech.
