Nigerian duo of Favour Olifi and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi gave solid performances at major meets on Friday, showing glimpses of the great things to expect from them at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris,  PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Ofili won the women’s 100m at the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis, TN, clocking a time of 11.13s (-0.9) and beating Ackera Nugent in second with 11.17s. Maia McCoy finished 3rd in 11.32s.

Enekwechi underscored his consistency this year by landing 21.52m to finish 2nd in the men’s shot put at the Morton Games in Ireland.  He has now surpassed 21 metres a total of 17 times out of his 19 times of stepping in the ring this season

Jordan Geist  of the USA won the event with a PB of 22.25m.

Meanwhile, Tobi Sijuade will be representing Nigeria in swimming, having qualified for the men’s 50m Freestyle.

Sijuade was at the African Games in Ghana, helping Team Nigeria win a Bronze medal in the men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay.

The 22-year old Health and Exercise Science graduate from the University of Bath, will be Nigeria’s only swimmer in Paris, becoming only the 11th Nigerian to qualify for Swimming at the Olympics.

This is the first time in history that Nigeria will be qualifying for three consecutive Olympics in the Swimming event, after Samson Opuakpo and Rachael Tonjor did in 2016, Abiola Ogunbanwon in  2021, and Tobi Sijuade in 2024.
