Enugu Shunned Hunger Protests As A Show Of Confidence In Gov Mbah — Senator Ngwu

The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, has expressed delight that people of Enugu State have shunned the ongoing nationwide protests code-named #EndBadGovernance.

Senator Ngwu, who is the lawmaker representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the Senate, said this after monitoring the situation in his state on Thursday.

He described the decision of the people, especially the youths to go about their normal businesses, jettisoning the protests as a show of solidarity and expression of happiness with the administration of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

The Senate Principal Officer, who admitted the perilous socioeconomic situation of the country, however, commended the people of Enugu for their show of understanding especially with the State Governor who has in the last one year demonstrated that he has the interest of Ndi Enugu at heart.

He reiterated the call on people especially where the protests have turned violent to emulate the people of Enugu State, and calm down to give the government at the centre a second chance to address their concerns, adding that the National Assembly too was not folding its arms, but taking steps to provide legislative interventions to ameliorate the situation.

Senator Ngwu, therefore, urged Enugu people to continue to support Governor Mbah, to spur him to do more in providing dividends of democracy, especially in the area of infrastructure development which he has done very well so far.

“Having monitored the situation in Enugu, I am delighted to say that there is no protest in the state as Ndi Enugu, particularly the youths are happy and appreciative of tremendous efforts of His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah to turn the fortunes of the state around.

“The Governor has in the last one year embarked on people oriented projects to create conducive environment for our people to thrive in whatever endeavours they are individually engaged in.

“Just to mention but a few, Abakpa-NOWAS Junction Road, covering 1.75 kilometers, has been reconstructed, while the Cornerstone/Ugwuani to Ikegbunam Road, spanning 1.41 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded. The Ikegbunam Junction – Liberty Bus Stop Road, covering 0.55 kilometers, has been given a new lease on life, while the Texaco Bus Stop – Ifo Road, stretching 1.98 kilometers, has been reconstructed.

“The access road to the 9th Mile Crash Programme, covering 1.7 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded, while the New Enugu City Road, spanning 17 kilometers, has been given a fresh coat of asphalt. The Owo/Ubahu/Ama Nkanu/Neke/Ikem Dual Carriage Road, covering 37.8 kilometers, is undergoing reconstruction, while the Amechi Idodo/Amagunze Road, spanning 14.3 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded.

“The Ama Brewery Junction Eke-Akama Owa Road, covering 40 kilometers, has been given a new lease on life, while the Akwuke Road from Police Station Garriki to Coal Mining Site, spanning 6.612 kilometers, has been reconstructed. The emergency road construction of Agumgbuji – Ogbete Road, Eha Amufu, in Isiuzo Local Government Area, covering 21.73 kilometers, is nearing completion, while the Enugu to Ebonyi State Border Road Route 25 (A343), spanning 21.5 kilometers, has been reconstructed.

“The Akpoga – Ezi Obodo – Mbulu Owo – 17th Junction Road, covering 21.2 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded, while the Mbulu – Owo -Ndiagu Owo Road, spanning 42 kilometers, has been given a fresh coat of asphalt.

“The Spurs to Ndiagu Owo Road, covering 17 kilometers, has been reconstructed, while the Mbulu – Amaeke – Amauzam Ohuani Road, spanning 20 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded. As we speak, the Enugu Airport flyover through Abakpa Junction, covering 82 Division to Ogui Junction (Zoo Junction), is undergoing reconstruction. The Ogui Junction to Otigba Junction to New Haven by Bisalla Junction Road, spanning 20 kilometers, has been given a new lease on life.

“The Chime Avenue through Bisalla road through Okpara Square to Toscana roundabout Road, covering 15 kilometers, has been repaired and expanded, while the Toscana Roundabout to Goshen Roundabout Road, spanning 10 kilometers, has been given a fresh coat of asphalt. The Prisons Roundabout to CPS to Akwata to Mgbemene Roundabout to CIC to Zik Avenue,” the federal lawmaker stated.
