- Manchester United have parted ways with Erik ten Hag a few hours after he lost to West Ham in the Premier League
- The decision brings to an end Ten Hag's two and half year spell at Old Trafford, which was characterised by extreme highs and lows
- Ruud van Nistelrooy has been asked to take charge on an interim basis as the hunt for a new permanent manager begins
Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag with immediate effect. Erik ten Hag's last game in charge was the 2-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday evening.
The decision comes after a long period of sustained pressure for the manager to produce consistent results after a pathetic start to the season.
What did Erik ten Hag win at Manchester United?
The Dutchman leaves Old Trafford after a two-and-a-half-year spell. He won the Carabao Cup in his debut season, where he beat Newcastle United in the final. He then followed it up with the FA Cup last season, where they stunned Manchester City.
"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future," read the club's statement.Manchester United's form under Erik ten Hag
Ten Hag, whose future was up in the air as soon as Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a controlling stake in the club, was confident of turning things around.
But after only one win in eight games, his position became untenable. He leaves the Red Devils in 14th place with 11 points. Their form in the Europa League has also been telling, with three draws from their first three games.
Club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in on an interim basis as the club embarks on a plan to get a new coach. Van Nistelrooy was ten Hag's assistant.
Manchester United's next games
Van Nistelrooy's first four games in charge will be at Old Trafford, which could help him lift the mood at the club. United play Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before welcoming Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
They will then play PAOK in the Europa League before facing Leicester again in the Premier League.
Man United hold talks with four coaches
Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United reportedly held "secret" talks with four coaches to replace Erik ten Hag.
Xavi and Brentford boss Thomas Frank are among the coaches the club reportedly talked to.
