Manchester City vs Arsenal match report

Haaland's opening goal after nine minutes was cancelled out by a beautiful Riccardo Calafiori strike for his first goal in Arsenal colours. The visitors then took a surprising lead when Gabriel Magalhaes nodded home from a corner.

The Gunners' perfect afternoon, however, took a sharp turn after Leandro Trossard was sent off right before half-time. After the break, Mikel Arteta marshalled his troops into gallant defending but were eventually undone by a last-gasp John Stones goal.

What did Haaland do against Arsenal?

The scenes thereafter saw Haaland dominate headlines with all kinds of stirring behaviour. The Norwegian hit Magalhaes with the ball before bumping into Thomas Partey after the restart. He then appeared to ask Arsenal's debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly who he was.

After the final whistle, Haaland was heard telling Arteta to stay humble in a clip that went viral. The incident drew widespread reactions, with Arsenal legend Ian Wright calling him a coward.

Erling Haaland breaks social media silence

The former Borussia Dortmund striker took a small sabbatical from social media. He was also dealing with the loss of a loved one, whom he was excused to attend his burial when Pep Guardiola's side played Watford in the Carabao Cup.

"Hey, guys. Just wanted to thank the club, the fans and everyone for all the support over the past couple of weeks; let’s look ahead and focus on what’s next," he wrote on his social media platforms.

Haaland hasn't scored since the Arsenal game, but Manchester City have remained within touching distance of league leaders Liverpool. The champions are a point behind Arne Slot's men on the Premier League table heading into the international break.

Why Trossard was sent off vs Man City

Legit.ng had also reported on why Leandro Trossard was sent off against Manchester City.

The Belgian winger had earlier been booked for stopping a Manchester City counter-attack before he was shown his second yellow card just before half-time.
