Euro 2024: I don’t want to play left-back for England – Bukayo Saka

5 months ago 38

England winger, Bukayo Saka, has said moving him from right wing to left-back will not help solve the team’s problems.

Saka started all three of their group games at Euro 2024 from the right side of midfield.

So far, the Arsenal star has registered an assist for Jude Bellingham in the opening 1-0 win against Serbia.

Saka’s goal in the 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday was ruled out, because Phil Foden had strayed offside in the build-up.

England have failed to impress so far despite reaching the last-16 as Group C winners and the clamour for Chelsea’s Cole Palmer to start has increased, after his impressive cameo during the last 20 minutes in Cologne.

The calls for Palmer to start have led to suggestions that Southgate could try playing Saka at left-back, a position he played in his younger years at Arsenal.

However, Saka has told BBC 5 Live that “putting me out of position” at left back is not the solution for England.

He added that “it’s in Gareth’s hands and we all have to trust what he selects on the day”.
