While England and Spain are preparing for the Euro 2024 final, some players are eying the possibility of going home with the tournament’s Golden Boot.
Recall that Spain knocked out the hosts of the tournament, Germany to make it to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, where they defeated France 2-1.
On the other hand, England used a penalty shootout to knock out Switzerland in the quarter-finals and defeated the Netherlands 2-1 in the semi-finals.
This means that the two Euro 2024 finalists are goalscoring teams which is a huge advantage for their players who are in contention for the Golden Boot.
As it stands, only Fabián Ruiz has a brighter chance of contending for the golden boot in the final amidst Spanish players because he is the only player on the team that has two goals, a goal away from the set of players currently occupying the first spot.
Seven Spanish players, including the team’s captain, Álvaro Morata, and the side’s fast-rising youngster, Lamine Yamal are on a goal each.
The player with the biggest advantage heading into the Euro 2024 final at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, is England’s Harry Kane. The 30-year-old Bayern Munich striker and six other players top the chart with three goals each.
The advantage is that Kane is the only player who is on three goals and is still in the competition. Hence, he needs just a goal to be the sole winner of the Euro 2024 Golden Boot.
