The immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wale Babalakin, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacheus Adedeji, are among prominent personalities set to discuss “Tax and Its Administration in Nigeria” at the 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch.

The Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Adebayo Mutalubi, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Thursday.

Mutalubi revealed that the event is part of a week-long series of activities marking the anniversary.

He highlighted that the NBA Ibadan Branch would also donate items to orphanages and conclude the Aare Afe Babalola football competition as part of the celebrations.

“The event will feature distinguished speakers, including the former CJN, Justice Ariwoola, SAN Wale Babalakin, and FIRS Chairman, Adedeji. They will deliberate on ‘Tax and Its Administration in Nigeria,’” Mutalubi said.

He added that other dignitaries expected at the event include the Oyo State Chairman of Internally Generated Revenue, Olufemi Awakan; NBA President, Afam Osigwe; the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; and legal luminaries such as Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Peter Olabisi Ige, Ahmed Raji (SAN), Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima.

Mutalubi described the Ibadan branch as the “pacesetter” and the first formally organized bar association in Nigeria. He noted that the branch has produced exceptional lawyers excelling in various fields of law and governance.

The 70th-anniversary celebration is expected to underscore the NBA Ibadan Branch’s legacy as a leader in legal innovation and advocacy in Nigeria.
