Former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder, James Rodriguez, has joined La Liga club, Rayo Vallecano as a free agent.

Before his return to Spanish La Liga, James Rodriguez had been without a club since departing Brazilian side Sao Paulo earlier this summer.

But Rodriguez proved that he was not done with elite football during the 2024 Copa America in the United States, where he played a vital role for Colombia, providing six assists as they reached the final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Argentina in the final.

He is expected to bring that form to Rayo Vallecano who are currently eighth in La Liga, having begun the season with a win and a draw. Recall that they finished 17th in the previous season.

Rodriguez gained significant recognition by winning the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup before making a move to Real Madrid. During his time at the Spanish club, the 33-year-old Colombian star made 125 appearances.

Following his stint at Real Madrid, he spent two years on loan at Bayern Munich and then joined Everton in 2020.

He played 26 times for Everton before leaving the club to join Qatari side Al Rayyan. His journey then took him to Olympiakos before moving to Sao Paulo in 2023.
