Experts Canvass More Investment In Grassroots Security Agencies

Some security experts have urged governments at all levels to prioritise empowerment  in grassroot security agencies  to tackle dangers confronting the country..

They gave the advice during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta yesterday .

They said some places, especially, remote areas, were solely guarded by these agencies.

An ex -military personnel, Mr Aderotimi Ajai, said groups like Amotekun, Agbekoya, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Synergy Guards of Nigeria (SGN) needed to be given more attention,

“Also the Hunters Group of Nigeria ( HSN) and similar organisations must be fortified intensively,” he said.

Ajai, who is also the Chief of Operations, Amotekun Corps, Ekiti, said the empowerment should not be limited to staff strength.

”They also need sophisticated equipment and artificial intelligence to help them fight properly,” Ajai said .

An ex commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), Mr Paul Ayeni, also said the outfits are more closer to Nigerians.

“Their security for lives and property remained  non negotiable,” Ayeni said.

He expressed regret that the federal government is yet to bring into preeminence the supreme role these agencies could undertake in the country’s security network.

He pleaded with the government to improve logistics supply and arms fund support,

”Availability of artificial intelligence like drones, CCTV cameras, digitalised shockers, armour tanks among others should never be compromised ,” he said.

The founder, Useful Youth Vision Concepts (UYVC), Mrs Adetokunbo Shonibare-Ayantunji, called for collaborative responsibilities to combat insecurity.

”Collaborative security responsibilities by Nigerians to upgrade these agencies will solve kidnapping, armed banditry, cultism, ritualism and insurgency,” Shonibare said.
