Some Nigerian football enthusiasts have backed Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho to shine in La Liga in the colours of Sevilla, whom he joined on Wednesday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The club announced the signing of the 27-year-old on Wednesday night after he passed the medical he underwent on Tuesday.
The former Leicester City player, whose contract with the Foxes expired at the end of last season, signed a two-year deal with the Andalusian club.
Last season, Iheanacho played majorly fringe roles in the Foxes’ return to the English Premier League, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances, but he will be donning Sevilla’s white jersey during the 2024/25 season.
Reacting to the 26-year-old move to Spain, some followers of the 2013 FIFA U-17 Golden Boy backed him to shine in the Spanish League.
Mr. Xperience wrote on X, “Watch him score more goals than Ferran Torres, Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal. The second-best attacker just arrived in La Liga after Kylian Mbappe.”
Another X user, Ayodeji, added, “Senior man will light up your farmer’s league.”
Stretch wrote, “Senior man Kelechi is about to light up La Liga.”
“Senior Man, please don’t score against my team, Real Madrid,” MalamBuba pleaded.
Ethan tweeted, “We all know the quality Iheanacho possesses, and it really baffles me that he struggled in the Premier League. La Liga is all about technique, and I do not doubt that he will excel there. Congratulations, Senior Man Kel.”
“Whoever made this move come to reality has done Kelechi a lot of good because I believe he just went to the league where he will be able to make good use of his techniques. I am confident that he will do very well in Spain,” Temitope Usman said.
Iheanacho joins fellow countryman Chidera Ejuke at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as the Spanish side look to rebuild after a disappointing 2023/24 season that saw them finish 14th on the log.
