The 2024 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, dazzled with an explosion of cultural pride and rich Ijebu traditional heritage. Held on the third day following Eid al-Kabir (Ileya), this annual celebration drew crowds of people from near and far. Mr. Farooq Oreagba has over two decades of experience in finance. He is currently the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Designate of NG Clearing Limited, a financial market firm in Nigeria.

He has become a well-respected figure in the finance industry, having held top positions at investment and financial institutions in London, Amsterdam, and South Africa. Also, he specialises in Cash Equities and Derivative products.

2. Academic background

Interestingly, Mr. Farooq is an alumnus of Kings College, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious secondary schools. The school has produced high-flying figures in the country such as Bukola Saraki, the 13th President of Nigeria, and Sir Alex Ekwueme, former Vice-President of Nigeria. Other notable alumni of the school are Lateef Jakande, HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and many others.

3. Family background

Born Farooq Olatunbosun Oreagba, Farooq is a part of the Oreagba Akeula family. He has a distant relationship with the Balogun Kuku family. Furthermore, their lineage can be traced back to the 19th century when their ancestors made significant contributions to the development of Ijebu Ode. Balogun Odueyingbo Kuku, perhaps the most notable Kuku, is the man who established the Ojude Oba festival in 1896. He was the second Balogun of Ijebu and was indeed wealthy, powerful, and influential.

Additionally, Farooq Oreagba has three sons. He had his first two sons with his ex-wife and his last son with his current partner. As of now, not much is known about the identity of his wife.

4. A leader across all boards

Farooq Oreagba’s professional journey does not run short of the leadership roles he has amassed under his belt. He has headed an array of global financial centres, including being the head of European Equity Derivatives at Fimat International Banque, Director of Equity Products at GNI Limited, and Head of Strategy and Business Development Directorate at the Nigerian Stock Exchange among others.

5. A resilient cancer survivor

Mr. Farooq has beaten the finance sector, outsmarted the career ladder, and also beaten the disease of cancer. He was diagnosed with bone and skin cancer in February 2014. He is a strong cancer survivor who actively shares his journey to counsel cancer patients and raise awareness about the disease.
