The Federal Government and the Lagos State Government on Tuesday entered into a partnership on food security.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, met with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, where she presented the proposal of the Federal Government on the provision of machines that were useful in the processing of cassava into Garri flour.

She explained that the Federal Government had introduced similar partnerships in other states, and her team was in Lagos to do the same.

According to her, the Federal Government’s drive in the agricultural sector aims to carry women along with about “30 per cent and 70 per cent representation for women and men”, respectively.

In his remarks at the meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, Sanwo-Olu pledged the support of Lagos for the initiative.

The governor said the state had a large farm it operated to boost agriculture, noting that the state was committed to empowerment and food security.

He said, “We have a huge farm that we operate. We see the synergy in what you’re doing. The food security you want to achieve, we will help you in achieving it. We’re willing to derive the benefits from what the Federal Government is bringing to us.”

Sanwo-Olu noted that the state was always ready to participate in initiatives that would bring development to the state and provide employment for residents.
