The Ministry of Works has rehabilitated section 2 of the Kano-Maiduguri road in Bauchi, which was recently cut off by devastating flooding and reopened for commuters.

The Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, reopened the road after completing its rehabilitation to ease commuters’ movement.

The rain damaged the Sabon Gari axis of Section 2 Kano-Maiduguri road in Bauchi State, which the Minister ordered immediately repaired.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Minister, Barr Orji Uchenna Orji, said, “This flood disaster caused by climate change was going to cause monumental hardship to the people of the affected area and indeed all the users of the road.”

However, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered prompt and immediate intervention.

He said, “In furtherance of the President’s mandate, the workaholic Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi visited the area on 15 August 2024 and initiated emergency response processes and permanent solution measures to sort out the critical road situation.

“Today, the life-threatening problems faced by the people due to the destroyed road have been solved. The Federal Ministry of Works has fixed and opened the road immediately, pending when final and permanent construction work is wholly executed.

The road was opened for use on 12 September 2024, courtesy of the Minister of Works’ ingenuity.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for returning hope to the good people of Bauchi State. The Federal Ministry of Works under Sen. Umahi is commended for always being up to the task,” he added.
