The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and former Oyo State governor, High Chief Ladoja was on Monday crowned as an Oba.

The former governor was crowned by the Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Owolabi Olakulehin at a brief event held at the new palace of Olubadan at Oke Aremo in Ibadan.

Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, represented Governor Seyi Makinde at the coronation witnessed by other Ibadan Obas and senior chiefs.

The Otun Olubadan is the last Ibadan High Chief to be crowned, having initially refused to accept beaded crown and engaged in lawsuits against the Oyo State government over the development.

The former governor, who is currently in the line to become the next Olubadan however bowed to pressure in view of the amendment to the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957 which was signed by Governor Seyi Makinde and gazetted in 2023.

The amended declaration now made is mandatory for a candidate to the throne of Olubadan in the next chieftaincy line to be a beaded crown wearing king.
