The manufacturers of the product CocoSamba, Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, have warned against fake news about the organisation and its products by disseminating falsehood and calumnious comments.

The firm gave the warning following the recent arrest of one Adefela Adeigbe, a blogger responsible for the ‘Eko Mi Eko E’ platform, who is embroiled in a case for allegedly making an unsubstantiated claim about its product after allegedly saying “Cocosamba Sexual Stimulant Can Kill.”

Adeigbe, after his arrest, was granted bail and voluntarily presented himself at the Ibafo Police Station on Monday, August 12, 2024, whereupon he was transported to the Ogun State Magistrate Court to face defamation charges under charge No. MO/577C/2024.

Consequently, he was summoned to provide evidence from a laboratory where he purportedly conducted tests to substantiate his claims regarding the purported harmful effects of CocoSamba.

However, during the court proceedings presided over by Magistrate Olajumoke Somefun, Adeigbe entered a plea of not guilty, and his legal counsel successfully applied for bail, pending further legal proceedings.

The charges levelled against Adefela Adeigbe include Count 1: Adefela Adeigbe on 08/08/2024 at approximately 1530 hours in Ibafo, Ogun State, within the Obafemi Owode Egba Magisterial District, willfully defamed one of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited’s products, CocoSamba herbal mixture, on his blogger platform ‘Eko Mi Eko E’ and subsequently reposted on social media, falsely claiming that the product “CAN KILL”, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 375 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State.

In a statement addressing the allegations, Mr Oguntade Samuel Oluseyi, Manager of Bullion Go-Neat Global Limited, expressed profound concern regarding the dissemination of false information about their product, emphasising that Adeigbe’s case should serve as a deterrent to others engaged in the dissemination of falsehoods.

Oluseyi reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to consumer safety and compliance with regulatory standards, underscoring that CocoSamba undergoes rigorous quality control measures and adheres to all regulations set by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

He lamented the potential harm caused by such misinformation to the company’s reputation and business, urging the public to verify information from credible sources before dissemination, as he believed that the misinformation has resulted in financial loss, erosion of business goodwill, and has also impacted the integrity which the company has painstakingly built over an extended period.

Oluseyi remarked, “We apprehended Mr Adefela Adeigbe for publishing false news about our product, CocoSamba. This should serve as a salutary lesson to those engaged in such activities. We are committed to ensuring that perpetrators of misinformation face the full consequences of the law.”

Oluseyi further said, “Adefela Adeigbe, a purveyor of junk journalism, has consistently rewritten and featured this false narrative. The critical question remains: What does Adefela Adeigbe stand to gain by orchestrating the downfall of this local manufacturing company in Nigeria?”
