Chidera Ejuke has expressed his delight at netting his first goal for Sevilla FC in their 2-1 win over Real Valladolid on matchday seven of the 2024/2025 La Liga season, making him the first Nigerian to score in the club’s history.

Ejuke, who came on as a second-half substitute, scored the decisive goal in the 85th minute, securing Sevilla’s second league victory of the season. The Super Eagles winger capitalised on a misplaced Valladolid pass, skilfully evading three defenders before placing a precise shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Speaking after the match, Ejuke said, “It’s incredible to score in front of the fans. It’s an amazing feeling, and to also secure the win is just great. I’m very happy.”

The forward’s goal sent Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium into raptures, marking a special moment for both the player and the club.

This was Ejuke’s sixth appearance for Sevilla since joining on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow, and his contributions have been vital to the team’s progress under manager García Pimienta.

“It’s an important victory for the team. We needed this win, and it gives us the confidence to keep going,” Ejuke told Sevilla FC’s official media after the game.Sevilla initially took the lead through an own goal from Real Valladolid’s David Torres just before halftime, but Kike Pérez equalised for the visitors early in the second half.

With the match finely poised, Ejuke’s introduction proved decisive, as his late strike ensured Sevilla climbed to 12th on the log with eight points after seven matches.

Ejuke’s compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho, also featured in the match, starting the game before being substituted in the second half after a few futile attempts on goal.

The victory also places Ejuke in the company of other Nigerian stars who have made their mark in La Liga, including Finidi George, Samuel Chukwueze, and Obafemi Martins.

Ejuke’s performance and goal have further cemented his place in Sevilla’s squad, with fans eager to see more from the 26-year-old forward as the season progresses.
