Flood Cuts Off Bauchi-Kano Highway, 1 Other Road

A flood induced by heavy downpours has cut off the Bauchi-Kano federal highway between Malamawar-Gangara and Babaldu communities along the road.

LEADERSHIP reports that the flood halted traffic flow along the road. Road users travelling to Kano had to take a longer route – through Misau to Kano.

The flood occurred after a nearby river overflowed its bank, washing away parts of the road.

A resident of Malamawar-Gangara, Isa Usman told our correspondent that all forms of traffic have been suspended on the road for safety reasons.

“Before the flood cut off the road, it used to be a busy economic road linking Kano-Bauchi but it is now free from vehicles and travellers, a usual experience,” he said.

Similarly, the flood also washed away the Azare-Isawa-Giade road in the Giade local government area of Bauchi State.

The historic road served agrarian communities of Katagum and Giade LGAs for decades, thereby, causing panic and bewilderment to road users plying for various socio-economic purposes.

Speaking at the scene, Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim said support would be provided to the victims to alleviate their sufferings at this critical time.

He said data on the victims would also be collated to package interventions for them in specific areas of need.

Kashim said the flood destroyed several farms, houses, schools and hospitals in the area.

It would be recalled that flooding also cuts off the Kano-Maiduguri Expressway at the Maluri-Gaskuri community in the Katagum local government area of Bauchi State.
