Governor of Adamawa State Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has directed the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 21 local government areas to focus on good governance at the grassroots.

He gave the marching orders at the swearing-in of the council bosses in Yola, the state capital.

Fintiri also told them to discharge their duties responsibly and refrain from absenteeism.

The state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won all 21 chairmanship seats and 225 councillorship positions, while the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) got one councillorship slot in Demsa LG.

Justice Hafsat Abdurrahman, the state chief judge, administered the oath of office and allegiance to the chairmen.

Governor Fintiri challenged the chairmen to eschew corruption and run an inclusive administration.

He urged them to avoid absenteeism in office, as his administration would not condone the chairmen’s habit of abandoning their duties without genuine reasons.

Fintiri saluted the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for conducting the election, which is widely acknowledged as one of the best and most credible in the state’s history.

In his goodwill message, the state PDP chairman, Barr A. T. Shehu, chairmen, said they were elected based on Fintiri’s integrity and urged them to emulate him and deliver good governance.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues, Suleiman Ahmed, chairman of the local government area of Toungo, said the mandate given to them would not have been possible without Fintiri’s good leadership.

He reaffirmed their commitment to diligently discharge their duties and work by the present administration’s development agenda in the best interest of the Adamawa people.
