Manchester City midfielder, Rodri has shared insights about his friends’ reactions to his Ballon d’Or 2024 victory.
Rodri was honoured with the award on Monday at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, ahead of second-placed Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.
The decision to name Rodri the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has sparked discussions across social media, with many fans expressing that Vinicius deserved the recognition.
Note that reports circulated before the ceremony that indicated Vinicius would not win it, leading Real Madrid to boycott the event.
In his post-award remarks, Rodri, 28, expressed how supportive his friends were, stating, “Many of my friends have written to me to say, ‘Football has won today!’”
Note that Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d’Or in recognition for his remarkable performance last season in which he clinched the 2024 Euro, UEFA Super Cup, and Premier League titles.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga voiced his concerns regarding the Ballon d’Or organizers after Vinicius Junior missed out on the award.
Camavinga implied that there may have been undue influences affecting the outcome, emphasizing his belief that Vinicius is truly an exceptional talent. He remarked that no award can truly encapsulate the brilliance of the Brazilian player.
“FOOTBALL POLITICS. My brother, you are the best player in the world, and no award can say otherwise. Love you, my bro”, Camavinga wrote on X in the caption of Vinicius’ picture.
