The former Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Harford Oseke, has died at the age of 64.

The politician, who hailed from Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area, passed away under circumstances that remain unclear as of the time of this report.

According to Channels TV, report surrounding Oseke’s death are conflicting. Some sources suggest that he collapsed during his regular exercise routine at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Monday.

Others indicate that Oseke had been battling an illness and was in the hospital until news of his death surfaced on Monday.

Oseke, a law graduate, had recently completed his Ph.D. in Public Administration at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. His political career began with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the ruling party in Anambra State.

During the administration of former Governor Peter Obi, Oseke won a seat in the state’s House of Assembly, where he first served as Majority Leader before being elected Deputy Speaker.

No official statement has yet been released by Oseke’s family or the state government.

However, a close relative, who wished to remain anonymous, lamented the loss, calling it a tragedy and noting that Anambra has lost several prominent politicians in quick succession recently.
