French football player Wissam Ben Yedder was sentenced to two years in prison on Tuesday, November 12, following his trial last month in France for sexually assaulting a woman.

After receiving a two-year suspended jail sentence in a sexual assault case in a separate court case last year, former France striker Wissam Ben Yedder was charged with rape, attempted rape and sexual assault over another alleged incident in the south of France.

The prosecutor asked for a two-year jail term which he got after a lengthy court procedure.

During the trial, Frank Michel, the plaintiff’s attorney, claimed that the victim was in shock and demanded damages of €25,000. He holds the right to challenge the decision.

Recall that Ben Yedder was charged after he was sued by a lady in September 2024.

Following the confrontation in his car on the French Riviera, the 34-year-old player—a prolific striker who has also played for the France national team—was arrested before he was released on bail.

Before he was arrested, the footballer refused to stop his car, and the police had to apply extra measures to make him do so. Following the encounter, he was taken into custody at his residence.

Based on that aspect of the case, Ben Yedder’s driver’s license was suspended for six months by the court.

Ben Yedder acknowledged driving under the influence after his arrest and has subsequently begun alcohol treatment and detox. He said he had no memory of any sexual assault and denied any wrongdoing in that regard. Yet, he was found guilty.

Since his contract with Monaco ended at the end of the previous season, Ben Yedder has been without a club.

He helped Monaco finish second behind Paris Saint-Germain in the French league last season with 16 goals and three assists.

He became Monaco’s second-highest scorer in five seasons, behind retired Argentine striker Delio Onnis, with 118 goals in 201 games across all competitions (223).

The latest of Ben Yedder’s 19 international caps for France was in June 2022.
