Prof. Sonni Tyoden, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, has died at the age of 74.
His death was confirmed on Sunday in Jos by former Governor Simon Lalong, who visited the deceased’s residence to condole with the family.

Lalong described Tyoden as more than just a political ally, calling him a confidant, teacher, and mentor who played a crucial role in the success of their administration. “He brought significant stability, wisdom, and experience to our government. He worked tirelessly to ensure that we had a successful eight-year tenure,” Lalong said.
Prof. Tyoden passed away after a brief illness. A renowned academic, he served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos before venturing into politics. He was widely respected for his contributions to education and public service in Plateau State and beyond.
Further details on funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
