Foundation donates foodstuffs, cash to 2,000 families in Lagos

Hopeville Foundation has provided 2,000 families with rice, cooking oil and condiments needed to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged across Lagos State.

As part of its continued efforts to empower impoverished youth in Africa, the foundation on Wednesday also pledged to provide skill development and entrepreneurial opportunities for youths from less-privileged environments so they can succeed.

Hopeville Foundation is set to offer scholarships and empowerments worth N15 million to over 100 Nigerian undergraduates in a few months.

Founder, Hopeville Foundation, Dr Carolyna Hutchings, said the project efforts is to fight hunger and poverty in the country stressing, “Our mission aims to ensure our food truck reaches all local governments within Nigeria.

“Inflation has risen to record levels, meaning that many families are struggling to afford food. Our primary goal is to alleviate poverty and hunger in Africa by providing food donations to those who are most affected by these issues.

“With a robust network of volunteers, the foundation is set out to put smiles on the faces of people in dire need, particularly in various local government within Lagos State.

“According to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 40 per cent of Nigeria’s total population-nearly 83 million people, live below the country’s poverty line of N137, 430.00 per year. This alarming statistics reveals a humanitarian crisis that is worsening by the day and as a foundation, we are committed to give succour,” she added.

Speaking on the impact of the outreach, Mrs. Funmi Olayele, one of the 100 beneficiaries of cash donations said, “A lot of us are going through a lot this period, we cannot afford to buy food.

“Food items are very expensive this season and we are only trying to survive. I am grateful to the entire Hopeville team for remembering us today.”
