To promote inclusive learning, the Irene Popoola Helping Hand Foundation has donated essential educational materials to the FCT School of the Blind and Destined Children Orphanage Home Kado.
Speaking at the event on Thursday, the Founder, Irene Popoola, explained that the initiative aims to bridge the gap and provide equal opportunities for visually impaired students.
She urged individuals, NGOs, donors and other bodies to come together.
“Let’s break barriers and foster inclusive learning. Walking along Jabi Road, I witnessed a heartbreaking scene: school children without bags struggling in the rain. Notebooks clutched to their chests, hidden under their uniforms, they ran for shelter. This poignant moment sparked a sense of urgency within me.”
“Compelled, I founded an NGO focused on valuing child education. Our mission is to support vulnerable children with school fees, materials, and resources, empowering them to succeed.
“As I approach my seventies, my vision for the next five years is clear: I want to see the next generation take the reins, leading and managing this organisation.
Therefore, she called on the Nigerian government, civil society organizations, and donors to join the organisation in supporting these stranded and struggling children. “Together, we can alleviate poverty in our community and create a brighter future.
“Let us ensure every child has access to quality education, shelter, and opportunities. Let us empower them to break the cycle of poverty”.
She said, “I invite you to partner with us and invest in the future of Nigeria’s most vulnerable children.”
Commending the foundation, the Manager of Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Mr Gladys Oghale Eyeghre, said this foundation genuinely shapes lives and makes a profound impact.
“As I visit schools, I’m struck by the dire need for essential resources. Classrooms need chairs, desks, and basic tools. Sixty-six students sit on the floor, starkly contrasting our educational experiences.
She informed, “In our time, many leaders attended school on scholarships, securing jobs before graduation. They received packed lunches and support. But times have changed.
She said the Irenepopoola Foundation’s initiative is a beacon of hope. I commend their efforts and pray that God expands their reach and resources.
She urged everyone to support this noble cause. I’ve committed my contribution and encouraged others to do the same. Let’s collectively empower this generation.
“We cannot rely solely on government intervention. Together, we must bring our resources to the table. These children are our future. Let’s invest in them.”
