Fuel Price Hike: Nasarawa to establish LNG, CNG bi-fuel conversion centres – Gov Sule

In response to rising fuel prices following the removal of the petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government, the Nasarawa State government has announced plans to establish Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) bi-fuel conversion centres across the state.

The initiative, aimed at providing affordable and sustainable energy alternatives, will see centres set up in each of Nasarawa’s three senatorial zones.

Governor Abdullahi Sule made this announcement on Monday during the graduation ceremony of 50 auto-technicians who completed training in LNG/CNG bi-fuel conversion systems at the PAN Learning Centre in Kaduna.

DAILY POST reports that the technicians, drawn from the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association, underwent five days of intensive training to equip them with the skills to convert vehicles to LNG/CNG systems.

“We plan to establish conversion centres where these trained technicians will work, train others, and contribute to environmental conservation,” Governor Sule stated in Lafia.

He stated that the centres will focus on vehicle repairs, maintenance, and potentially the manufacturing of key components needed for bi-fuel conversions.

“The future is in clean energy—LNG, CNG, and electric vehicles. Our first conversion centre will be built in Lafia,” he added.

Governor Sule commended the Director-General of the state’s Human Capital Development Agency, Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman, for her efforts in supporting the project and urged the newly trained auto-technicians to take their roles seriously in improving their livelihoods and contributing to society.

Hussaini Abubakar, Director-General of the PAN Learning Centre, thanked the state government for investing in the training of the 50 technicians.

He stated that the global shift towards sustainable energy is driving the demand for skills in vehicle conversion from petrol or diesel to LNG/CNG.

“The training ensures that these individuals are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and efficient vehicle conversion, marking a significant step towards a sustainable future,” Abubakar stated.

Shuaibu Abdullahi, Chairman of the Nasarawa State Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association, expressed his gratitude to the state government for the training and praised Governor Sule for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of empowering citizens and transitioning to alternative energy sources.

Earlier in her opening remarks, Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman explained that the training focused on teaching participants to convert vehicles to an advanced auto-gas bi-fuel system, allowing them to switch between fuel types seamlessly, reducing costs and emissions.

At the event’s conclusion, Governor Sule presented certificates to the graduates, marking the beginning of their new roles as leaders in Nasarawa’s transition to clean energy.
