The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has unveiled its latest Air Quality Index, highlighting Agege as the area with the most hazardous air quality across the state.
According to the data released on Tuesday, Agege recorded a dangerously high score of 103 percent, indicating critical levels of air pollution for residents.
Following Agege, Surulere ranked second with a 76.1 percent rating, categorized as “very unhealthy.”
Other high-risk areas included Mushin, which registered 47.3 percent, and LAMATA Kosefe at 46 percent, both deemed “unhealthy” according to the report.
Additionally, the Lagos Port in Apapa scored 36.4 percent, Badagry registered 23.8 percent, and Moloney Street came in at 20.7 percent—all categorized as “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”
Egbeda, with a reading of 15.7 percent, and NIMET Oshodi, at 14.1 percent, were rated as having “moderate” air quality.
Other locations like the General Hospital Ikeja (12.6 percent) and LSDPC Estate on Lagos Island (12.1 percent) also showed moderate pollution levels.
In contrast, Lekki recorded the lowest pollution levels, with a score of 10.1 percent, representing “good” air quality, followed closely by LASEPA’s own station at 7.6 percent.
LASEPA acknowledged the less-than-ideal air quality in many areas but reassured residents that the agency is actively working to improve the state’s environmental health.
