In a remarkable display of unity and commitment, former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, Lagos State Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi, and Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, among other dignitaries, have voiced their support for Dr. Folashade Shotomide, the new District Governor of Lions International, District 404-A3, Nigeria.
This show of solidarity was evident during the recent fundraising and presentation ceremony held in Ikeja, Lagos, where Shotomide was unveiled as the first female District Governor of the district.
The event was marked by an outpouring of support for Shotomide’s new role, highlighting a collective commitment to enhancing the lives of the underprivileged.
The Lions Clubs’ international president, Fabricio Oliveira, represented by Princess Bridget Tychus, the international Director for Africa Constitutional Area 8, underscored the importance of teamwork and service.
Oliveira emphasized that the organization’s mission to serve and make a lasting impact is what unites Lions worldwide. His message, “Make Your Mark,” called on Lions to step up, grow their clubs, and strive to meet their goal of reaching 1.5 million members by July 2027.
Lion Anogwi Anyanwu, the multiple council chairperson for District 404 Nigeria, set a clear target for the Lions, urging Shotomide to lead efforts to grow the membership to 1.5 million by June 2027. He stressed that the growth is essential for meeting the increasing humanitarian needs globally.
Outgoing District Governor, Shakiru Balogun extended his congratulations to Shotomide, imploring Lions members to continue the strong support he received during his tenure.
Shotomide, in her presentation, outlined a strategic plan aimed at enhancing community outreach and addressing urgent needs. Her initiatives focus on healthcare, education, and economic empowerment for underserved populations.
She emphasised the importance of collective effort and community mobilisation in driving meaningful change. Abayomi, who chaired the occasion, lauded the Lions Clubs for their longstanding tradition of service, expressing the state government’s commitment to supporting Shotomide’s initiatives aimed at improving the lives of indigent residents.
Mr. Hakeem Mojeed, a deputy director from the Ministry of Health, represented Abayomi at the event. Olumide also voiced strong support for the Lions Clubs, aligning the organisation’s mission with the state’s goals of enhancing living conditions for marginalised groups.
The Keynote Speaker, Mr. Adeleke Agboola (SAN), delivered an inspiring lecture on “Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives,” urging affluent and influential Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Lionism through volunteering, fundraising, and spreading awareness.
This strong support from high-profile figures and government officials highlights a shared dedication to addressing social inequalities and advancing community development.
As Lions Clubs embark on this new chapter under Shotomide’s leadership, the collaboration with state leaders is poised to enhance their ability to create positive change and support indigent communities throughout Lagos.
