The former head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, believes that the newly appointed head coach of the team, Bruno Labbadia is the right man for the job.

Recall that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) named Bruno Labbadia the Super Eagles head coach on Tuesday, making him the sixth German to manage the three-time African champions.

Rohr, speaking about Labbadia’s appointment, praised the 58-year-old as a very good coach and expressed his hope that Labbadia would be well-received by the NFF and Nigerian fans.

The 71-year-old German tactician also acknowledged Labbadia’s experience in the Bundesliga and emphasized the need for him to quickly adapt to the different environment in Nigeria.

“He’s a very good coach; I hope he’s well treated by the NFF and Nigerian fans,” Rohr said, according to SCORENigeria.

“He has experience in the Bundesliga, I hope he quickly finds his way in Nigeria, which is a different environment.”

Bruno Labbadia is expected to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria to face the Benin Republic in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on September 7, 2024.

Ahead of the game, Gernot Rohr who led Benin to beat Nigeria 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, said he believes his team would beat the Super Eagles again.

“It’s another rematch against Nigeria. It will be three more games with them [including the upcoming return match, counting for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers],” he said.

“It’s a rematch against a very good team. But we have gained confidence and we know we can beat them.”
