Getafe have set a high transfer fee for Nigerian sensation Chrisantus Uche following his impressive start to life in the Spanish topflight, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The young midfielder has become the sensation of the club this season and has been tipped to leave the club in the upcoming transfer market.

Uche joined the Madrid-based club just a few weeks ago from Spanish third-tier side Ceuta for a meagre 500,000 euros and has become one of the most outstanding players in just five matches into the La Liga campaign.

On his debut away at San Mames, the midfielder starred and scored the equaliser in a thrilling 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao to mark his arrival. In the Azulones’ second game against Rayo Vallecano, the 21-year-old was again named the match’s most valuable player following another fantastic display. The Owerri-born midfielder has started all of Getafe’s four matches so far this season and has become an integral part of Jose Bordalas’s team.

Despite his young age, Uche has proven to have what it takes to play among the elite players, a fact accentuated by his performance against the Red and Whites.

His bright start to the 2024/25 La Liga season earned him a nomination for the best U-21 player for the month of August—an award he lost to another youngster, Lamine Yamal.Spanish outlet, fichajes, has reported that Uche, who has earned a prominent place in the Madrid squad and is already considered one of the biggest revelations of the season in La Liga, could leave Getafe after just one season with several top teams monitoring his progress.

While his future is being debated, Getafe have placed a high transfer fee of over €10m on the versatile player.

“Uche’s story in Getafe had an unexpected beginning. Due to absences from the team, Bordalás decided to field him as a forward, despite his natural position as a midfielder.

Far from being limited, the young Nigerian has shown great versatility and talent to perform in the forward line, providing goals and great dynamism to the blue attack,” the website wrote.

“This adaptability and immediate impact have not gone unnoticed, and the player has caught the attention of several major clubs in Europe, who are already closely monitoring his progress.

“Aware that they have one of the new football gems in their hands, Getafe does not want to let go of Uche easily. The club has made it clear that his departure will not be negotiated for less than €10m, a considerably higher amount than what they paid for his signing, which was less than €1m. This increase in his value reflects the team’s confidence in the potential of the young Nigerian and their desire to keep him as a key piece for the future.”

While his career is still in the early stages, Uche is already showing signs that he could be one of the best midfielders in Spain in the near future, and it is only a matter of time before the youngster earns an invitation to the Super Eagles if he continues with his fine performance for Getafe.
