Gombe enrolls 1000 Almajiri students in health insurance

No fewer than 1000 Almajiri children will benefit from the Gombe State Contributory HealthCare Management Agency under its equity programme.

Our correspondent reports that the occasion was organised with support from the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor at Tsansanya, Almajiri, and Islamiyya schools.

Speaking, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by Deputy Governor Dr Manassah Jatau, said in a bid to ensure an unwavering commitment to meeting the health needs of the populace, his administration introduced GoHealth to provide access to health care especially the vulnerable and the less privilege.

He said, “Of course, without this scheme, most people in this category would have been unable to access health services because they cannot afford them.

“Today, our gathering marks another significant milestone in our administration’s efforts towards healthcare provision as we witness the enrolling and registration of 1,000 Almajiri students into the Gombe State Health Insurance Scheme.”

While explaining the importance of the idea, the governor noted that the Almajiris being a vulnerable group live a lifestyle that makes them liable to be infected with communicable diseases, based on their exposure to the harsh environment.
